Losing the loved one is not easy, but in January, Celine Dion had to let go of her husband, René Angélil after his battle with his throat cancer. She also needed to think about how to explain this to her kids.
The couple have three kids, the 15 years old René-Charles and the twins, Eddy and Nelson who are only 5 years old.
In an interview with ABC News, Celine explained to her children using their favorite movie, Up.
“Then I said, “Do you remember the movie Up?’ It’s one of our favourites, and they said, ‘Oh, yes, Elie went yo with the balloons,’ and I said ‘Well, you know, today Papa went up because Papa was very sick”
She then continued, “He didn’t have a sore throat, he did not have a belly ache, he didn’t have an ear ache, do you remember Papa had a tube in his belly? Do you have a tube in your belly? I don’t. That’s really really really really sick’”
She explained she doesn’t want her kids to be scared of the doctor. She also does not want her kids to fear her dying and worry about who will take care of them.
“I said ‘is Papa in the living room? Is Papa in the kitchen? Papa is not in his bed anymore. Papa is not coming back.”
As a mother, she tried all her best to keep her children alright. She also said that her husband told her to continue her life and that “the show must go on”.
“He left me with all of his strength. Every day we live with him, just not physically. I am thankful that he does not suffer anymore.”
